Andrey Rublev Triumphs in Doha: My Perspective

What a final that was! The ATP 500 event in Doha delivered a cracking showdown between Andrey Rublev and Jack Draper, with Rublev eventually coming out on top 7-5, 5-7, 6-1. As a tennis fan, I couldn’t be happier to see Rublev lift another trophy—especially with the way he managed to keep his emotions in check while still playing his trademark explosive tennis.

We all know Rublev as one of the fiercest ball-strikers on tour, and this match was no different. His forehand was on fire, rifling winners past Draper at every opportunity. When he’s in that kind of rhythm, there’s not much anyone can do to stop him. He’s had moments in the past where frustration has crept into his game, but in Doha, he stayed composed—even when Draper levelled the match in the second set. That’s a huge step forward for him.

As for Draper, this was another impressive tournament in what has been a strong start to the year for the young Brit. He’s been knocking on the door of the top 10 for a while now, and his performances in Doha showed exactly why he’s such an exciting prospect. The way he fought back in the second set, showing resilience against one of the hardest hitters in the game, proves he’s got the mental toughness to compete with the best. If he keeps this up, 2025 could be a very successful season for him.

In the end, though, Rublev’s experience and firepower made the difference in the decider. Once he broke early in the third set, he never looked back. It’s always a joy to watch him in full flow, and when he’s playing with this level of controlled aggression, he’s a serious threat on any surface.
